The general objective of the programme is to provide advanced specialization in the theoretical and methodological concepts of the fields of Anthropology and Communication. Within this framework, topics such as transnationalism, gender, health, risk, and social movements have been, are, and will continue to be addressed from multidisciplinary perspectives. The programme offers specializations in Anthropology and Communication. The convergence of methodologies (ethnography, cinematography, videography, and phonography) and the theoretical approaches specific to each discipline provides added value to this PhD programme.

This programme is the result of the merger and integration of the PhD in Communication from the Department of Communication Studies and the PhD in Anthropology from the Department of Anthropology, Philosophy and Social Work. It responds to a dual concern: on the one hand, it seeks to enhance the scientific and academic quality of the existing programmes; on the other, it reflects the evolution towards an interdisciplinary field of research that would have seemed unthinkable only a few years ago. By reformulating a traditional, closed, and compartmentalized map of disciplines and sub-disciplines, the new PhD Programme in Anthropology and Communication initiates a short-, medium-, and long-term process that explores the increasingly evident intersections emerging in the research lines of scholars from both departments.
