Communication Studies have been taught at the URV since the 2008-2009 academic year at its Catalunya Campus, located in the centre of the city of Tarragona. The campus has all the equipment and facilities one would expect of a modern university campus: a lecture block with air conditioning and audiovisual equipment, a library and documentation centre, a restaurant-cafeteria, a photocopy shop, a car park with space for 300 vehicles and Wi-Fi.
Television studios
The Department of Communication Studies has two fully equipped television studios, designed as practical spaces for its Bachelor's Degrees in Advertising and Public Relations, Journalism, and Audiovisual Communication. The studios each have an acoustically treated set, a lighting system with moving lights and panel and fresnel lights. Since 2023, they have been equipped with 4K cameras configured for studio productions, a crane, cycloramas and a chroma key, a teleprompter and wireless microphones. Additionally, they have a technical control room equipped with an 8K video mixer, a sound desk, a lighting desk, video stations, a camera control unit and recorders. These facilities function as teaching laboratories where practical work for undergraduate and master's degree modules can be carried out.
Radio Studio
The radio studio is divided into two functional areas: the technical control room and the studio. In the control room, the main piece of equipment is a 12-channel digital mixing desk, which combines two audio inputs from computers that play content playback using radio automation software, which can be used to create and manage music tracks, sound effects and jingles. It also includes a hybrid channel for integrating live telephone calls into the main signal. The system is complemented by dynamic audio processors (compressors, limiters and effects), amplifiers and reference monitors for critical listening. The studio is equipped with an interview table, a professional audio mixer with headphones, two monitors and five condenser microphones with booms. This laboratory is used for practical work for subjects in audiovisual language, communication and expression, audiovisual technology, news genres, specialised journalism, and production in multimedia environments.
Design Laboratory
The Design and Audiovisual Animation Laboratory is equipped with 27 iMac computers and two 4K screens to facilitate the supervision of teaching content. All the equipment has the necessary software to teach graphic design, multimedia design, photography, etc. This space is designed to provide an optimal environment for technical and creative learning, where students can develop professional projects using the same tools as those used in professional practice.
Image Processing Laboratory I and II
The Communication Studies department has twelve independent editing booths spread across two spaces known as Image Processing Laboratories 1 and 2. In these laboratories, students can carry out audio and video editing and record the corresponding voice-overs. Each of these 12 booths is equipped with a computer workstation, a sound desk and a professional microphone.
Multipurpose Classroom
The multipurpose room is a versatile space designed to accommodate different types of teaching activities and group work. It is equipped with mobile furniture that allows the space to be easily reorganised according to the needs of each session. It has a computer connected to a TV screen to facilitate content viewing, as well as several whiteboards that encourage participatory and collaborative dynamics. This classroom is designed to foster creativity, debate, and teamwork in a flexible and functional environment.
